Education notebook: More last days, senior awards and a chat with Grover

Senior awards, part 2: On Thursday, the Greater Tulsa Area Hispanic/Latinx Affairs Commission presented the 2025 Tomas Rivera award to 28 seniors from eight area high schools.

The award recognizes Hispanic high school seniors who have at least a 3.0 grade point average, an attendance rate of 90% or better and have demonstrated exceptional leadership both in school and in the community.

Honorees include Jose Garcia from Bixby High School; Evelyn Munguia-Aria from East Central; Ashley Cisneros Bailon, Melisa Luna and Ramiro Avelar-Flores from Hale; Leslie Benitez Duran from KIPP Tulsa University Prep; Judith Aburto Lemus from McLain; Karen Hernandez Garcia, Leon Hernandez and Polett Conaway from Rogers; Andrew Jimenez, Dania Guevara, Edson Garcia Lira, Ezri Diaz, Fabian Hernandez Gamarra, Jaelyn Pineda, Jared Bailon, Kemerlin Bravo-Vasquez, Laisha Cisneros, Lizbeth Avelar Sanchez, Lupita Estrada Garcia, Mariana Vallin, Montcerrat Perez Garcia, Neybeth Perez, Paola Salas and Yahir Escobedo-Flores from Tulsa Honor Academy; and Issac Medina and Josue Del Rio Salas from Union High School.
