Literacy: The Pen Pal Campaign
Literacy includes reading, vocabulary development, writing, and speaking. The average fifth grader enrolls at KIPP Tulsa assessing up to three grade levels behind in reading. To achieve reading growth, students must build foundational skills such as word recognition, print concepts, and fluency, which are key components of learning to read. The purpose of the “Pen Pal Campaign” is to give students an opportunity to practice both their writing and reading skills.
