Darius Kirk to serve as KIPP Tulsa & KIPP OKC ED

February 24, 2021

Dear KIPP Team & Family,

We are pleased to announce that both KIPP OKC Public Schools’ and KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools’ Boards of Directors have voted to extend the role of Darius Kirk, current Executive Director of KIPP Tulsa, to include responsibilities as the Executive Director for KIPP OKC.

Mr. Kirk will oversee KIPP in both cities and set the overall vision and mission for our schools. Mr. Kirk will also begin the search process for a Chief Academic Officer to build a framework for academically excellent schools in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. While a statewide Executive Director and Chief Academic Officer will provide additional support to both cities, your Oklahoma City and Tulsa principals and staff will remain the same.

We believe that this new leadership structure will facilitate a strong partnership between KIPP OKC and KIPP Tulsa. Together, we will learn from each other, share knowledge about hybrid and remote learning, collaborate in areas like professional development, and improve resource efficiencies.

The KIPP OKC and KIPP Tulsa Boards have the utmost confidence that Mr. Kirk will lead KIPP into its next chapter in Oklahoma. With 12 years of experience as a school administrator and 6 years at KIPP, Mr. Kirk has the leadership background to build on KIPP’s record of preparing students for college and choice-filled lives in Oklahoma. While adhering to KIPP standards of excellence, KIPP schools in Tulsa and Oklahoma will continue to tailor their approach to the unique needs of their respective communities.

KIPP’s future is bright in Oklahoma. Under Mr. Kirk’s leadership, we will unify our academic vision, collaborate and share resources, and strengthen results for the children of Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
