KIPP TULSA ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, DARIUS KIRK
An accomplished educator and north Tulsa native, Kirk will return to his hometown to lead KIPP Tulsa
TULSA, OK–The KIPP Tulsa Board of Directors is pleased to announce that accomplished educator and north Tulsa native Darius Kirk, Ed.S. will take the helm as the new Executive Director of KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools effective June 1, 2020.
Born and raised in north Tulsa, Kirk began his education career as a teacher at East Central High School in Tulsa Public Schools and KIPP Tulsa College Prep, later working as a Principal at KIPP, Lewis and Clark Middle School, McLain Senior High School, and Riverview Gardens High School (St. Louis, Missouri). Most recently Kirk has served as Managing Director of Schools at KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools.
“As a former Tulsa Public Schools teacher and more recently a KIPP Memphis education leader, Darius has always aggressively pursued excellence and opportunity for communities, families, and children. We are thrilled that he is returning to Tulsa to take the helm as Executive Director of KIPP Tulsa,” stated Lance Franczyk, Board Chair of KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools.
When we asked Mr. Kirk about what Tulsa and KIPP meant to him, he said: “For me, Tulsa is a place that is enriched with culture and community. It is the place I call home. Being born and raised in north Tulsa allowed me to embrace and stand on the shoulders of great African-American leaders who built a thriving community called the Black Wall Street. I do not take this opportunity lightly and I look forward to serving our community with the excellence, persistence, and the wisdom of my ancestors.
Tulsa and KIPP were the building blocks of my educational career, and I am elated to come home to a powerful education system that established me and I was fortunate to help build. Moving with Desire, Discipline and Dedication, KIPP Tulsa will swiftly progress to the next level of excellence as we continue to serve our community.”
We are thrilled to welcome Darius Kirk back home to Tulsa as the new Executive Director of KIPP Tulsa.
